Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton has revealed he will finally shave off his moustache, following his side's 6-0 thumping of hapless Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old had accepted a challenge from his team-mates that he would sport the facial hair until the Premier League newcomers registered their first victory of the season.
The Tyneside club's curtain-raiser last weekend ended in the ignominy of suffering a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, but they bounced back in style on Sunday with their biggest victory at St James' Park for 11 years.
As coincidence would have it, Barton was the one to open the scoring against the Villans, sending in a screamer from 25-yards out.
"We've [Newcastle United] bounced back from a masterclass from Paul Scholes on Monday of course," Barton told BBC Sport.
"We were unbeaten at home last season [in the Championship] and we wanted to keep that form going this time.
"Thankfully, I can get rid of my moustache now - it was either my moustache or my relationship, so I'm quite pleased about that."
The 6-0 thumping also saw skipper Kevin Nolan bag a brace, while Alan Shearer's successor to the No.9 shirt, Andy Carroll, grabbed a hat-trick in a game that few Geordies are likely to forget anytime soon.
