Everton are confident that Steven Pienaar will agree to a new deal before the transfer window closes.

The South Africa international, who played a starring role for the hosts at the World Cup this summer, is a fan favourite at Everton.

However, with one year remaining on his current deal, the 28-year-old has not yet pledged his future to the Toffees, according to The Mirror.

Tottenham Hotspur are following Pienaar’s contract talks closely, and negotiations with the South African have stalled thus far.

However, Everton are hoping that getting Jack Rodwell and Mikel Arteta to sign new long-term deals to stay with the Toffees will help persuade Pienaar to stay.

More contract talks are scheduled and Everton manager David Moyes will wait as long as it takes to sign Pienaar to a new deal.
