Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes high wages will prevent any potential signing of Manchester City's Shay Given

Arsene Wenger admits he is unlikely to sign Shay Given from Manchester City.
Arsenal’s primary target to replace the error-prone Manuel Almunia had been Fulham’s Mark Schwarzer, but since Roberto Mancini demoted Given to second choice behind Joe Hart, the Ireland international has been linked with a move to the Emirates.
However, Wenger revealed that any potential deal could prove difficult due to the goalkeeper’s high salary.
"You can't offload the players when the financial difference between the two clubs is too big as no one can pay the wages.” Wenger told The Sun.
"I don't know how much their keepers get each year but you must pay the players who go.
"Anyway, City need two keepers. They offered Shay Given a new deal."
Comparisons have been drawn between the Schwarzer transfer and the Cesc Fabregas saga, which dominated headlines for the majority of the summer. But the Arsenal boss maintains his club will always do business correctly.
"If a club says 'no' you don't continue. We always behave like that," said Wenger.
