Arsenal legend David Seaman has urged Arsene Wenger to snap up Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer.

The Gunners are believed to be in the market for a new shot stopper after Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianksi, dubbed 'Lukasz Flappyhandski' by supporters, failed to convince. Indeed, Almunia faced new criticism during the weekend 1-1 draw against Liverpool after he let David Ngog's shot past him at the near-post.

Speaking to The Sun, Seaman, who was number one at the club for 13 years, insisted every effort must be made to land Schwarzer.

He said: "Both Almunia and Fabianski did not end last season well.

"They both made mistakes in high-profile games that effectively cost them the chance of some silverware.

"It means if the quality of someone like Mark Schwarzer becomes available, then Arsene needs to look at him.

"He is a great player, tried and tested and can make saves that win you games. He is a world-class goalkeeper."

Going by a study of the top five leagues in Europe, Schwarzer is a safer bet in goal that Almunia. The Fulham stopper is rated as the 165th best player in Europe by the Castrol Rankings, while Almunia is down in 205th place.
