Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: Ryan Giggs & Paul Scholes are blessed with something special
Scot delighted that his aging stars continue to shine...
By Gill Clark
Goals from Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Fletcher had given United a comfortable lead, before Scholes executed a trademark pass for Giggs to cap off the victory, with what was the Englishman’s second assist of the match, and the Welshman’s first goal of the season – maintaining his stunning achievement of having scored in all 19 Premier League seasons.
And speaking after the match, their manager was quick to praise the performances and longevity of his two star pupils.
"Scholes and Giggs are two players blessed with something special,” admired Ferguson to Sky Sports.
"I hope there is another player like them in the future.
"They are two players who can lift a game. Scholes proved again that he is just a master of his trade.
“Last week again, he [Scholes] showed at his age, you don’t lose what he’s got. He has a marvellous passing range and vision of the game and he’s still got the appetite,” he added.
“He looks after himself, another very important thing, last season was his first without injury for a long, long time. That’s key to Paul, if he can stay fit he can play on.”
When reflecting on the game in general, Ferguson admitted that: “We were a little bit wasteful, I think [Dimitar Berbatov] should have scored three or four but his performance was excellent.”
Despite his misgivings over his side’s finishing, Ferguson also declared himself pleased to have picked up three points ahead of a game away to Fulham, where United lost last season.
“I think the three points are always important in your first home match,” he said.
“I think for most of the game we were in control, our passing was good at times and it was a steady performance.”
