Newcastle United plotting late swoop for Fulham bound Benfica defender Rafik Halliche - report
Newcastle United are reportedly plotting to hijack defender Rafik Halliche's move from Benfica to Fulham.
The Cottagers' boss Mark Hughes was believed to be interested in acquiring the services of the Algeria international, following the 23-year-old's positive showing in the World Cup 2010.
It has since been speculated that the former Hussein Dey player is set to take a medical and train at London, prior to sealing a £1.3 million transfer.
However, the Daily Mail reports that Newcaslte could step in and scupper a potential deal by lodging an 11th-hour bid for the defender.
Halliche joined Benfica two years ago, but has been out on loan ever since.
