Fernando Torres benched for Liverpool in opener against Arsenal, as Javier Mascherano starts

No starting place for Spanish striker...
Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will start as a substitute against Arsenal at Anfield, while his Spanish team-mate Cesc Fabregas will not feature for the Gunners.

Both players are working back to full fitness after a long and successful World Cup 2010 campaign in South Africa, but compatriot and Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina starts for the Reds.

There are places in the Arsenal starting XI for new signings Laurent Koscielny and Marouane Chamakh, while 18-year-old midfielder Jack Wilshere - who made his debut for England in midweek - also gets the nod from Arsene Wenger.

Meanwhile, Javier Mascherano, who looks set to leave Liverpool this summer, starts in Roy Hodgson's first Premier League game in charge of the Reds.

There's also no place for new signing Christian Poulsen, while other summer recruits Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic are in the starting XI.
