Milner has been continually linked with a big-money move to Manchester City this summer, with the player himself said to be keen on a move to Eastlands.
However, the respective clubs are yet to agree a fee, with City believed to not want to pay over £22 million for the midfielder and Aston Villa holding out for a deal closer to £30m.
Yet, with the opening day upon us, Aston Villa's caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald has seen fit to name Milner in his squad for the match at Villa Park in the first game since the surprise departure of Martin O'Neill on Monday.
