Sven-Goran Eriksson is willing to lower his salary demands to get the vacant manager's job at Aston Villa, according to the Daily Mirror.

The former England boss has been installed as the bookies favourite to land the job after Everton manager David Moyes ruled himself out of taking the position, and he is adament that he will not price himself out of the job.

Eriksson, who used to be earning in the region of £3 million a year, is keen to get back into the Premier League after being sacked by Manchester City in 2008 and sees Villa as the perfect job, despite the imminent sale of James Milner to Manchester City and Tottenham's interest in Ashley Young.

The Swede, who managed the Ivory Coast at the World Cup in South Africa, has told friends that he was disappointed to miss out on the Fulham job, which went to Mark Hughes, but the departure of Martin O'Neill from Villa Park has seen another opportunity become available.

Caretaker manager Kevin MacDonald will be in charge for Villa's opening game of the season on Saturday, which is at home to West Ham.

The club’s reserve team boss is also likely to still be in charge when Villa fly to Vienna in the Europa League next week.
