West Ham United have made another bid for Everton Yakubu after having a £7 million offer rejected last month, reports Sky Sports News.
The Hammers are also close to completing a loan deal for Ajax striker Miralem Sulejmani, with that deal only relying on the completion of a work permit, so it seems that Avram Grant is making strengthening his attacking options a priority.
Yakubu is an experienced Premier League striker and scored 16 goals in 35 starts during his first top flight season with Portsmouth.
This led to a £7.5 million move to Middlesbrough, where he helped them make it to the final of the UEFA Cup and scored 25 goals in 73 appearaces before moving to Everton in August 2007 for a fee of around £11 million.
In his first season he got 21 goals in all competitions for David Moyes' men, but his second campaign was blighted by injury, and an injury sustained in November 2008 kept him out of action for almost a year.
West Ham struggled for goals last season and the possible arrival of Yakubu, together with Sulejmani, would give Grant a host of striking options with the likes of new signing Frederic Piquionne, Carlton Cole and Benni McCarthy all currently on the books at Upton Park.
The Hammers start their Premier League campaign with a trip to play an Aston Villa side still likely to be reeling from the resignation of Martin O'Neill only four days before the beginning of the season.
