Arsenal are pondering a move for Shay Given as Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is set to name Joe Hart his number one goalkeeper.
Hart is set to earn the starting spot in net for both City and England as Fabio Capello is ready to make the 23-year-old his number one when the Three Lions take on Hungary in a friendly on Wednesday.
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is desperate to solve his goalkeeping crisis and with Given looking at the possibility of sitting the bench, Arsenal are looking to make a move for the Republic of Ireland international, according to The Mirror.
Given would jump at the chance of moving to the Gunners, and would most likely join Arsenal on a loan deal.
Wenger’s interest in Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has waned as the Gunners would have to pay a transfer fee and sign him to an expensive two-year deal.
The Frenchman looked into making a deal for Hart, who had a fantastic season on loan at Birmingham, but City see the Englishman as their goalkeeper of the future and are unwilling to give him up.
Given also enjoyed a fine term for the Eastlands club, but is still recovering from a shoulder injury that prematurely ended his season last year, and with Hart playing well in pre-season it looks as if Mancini could give the youngster the starting job at City.
