Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is set to move for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young amid rumours that the former Watford ace wants to return to London.
According to The News of the World, Young, 25, has indicated that he is keen on a move to White Hart Lane but the salary he earns at Villa, reportedly £65,000 a week, would need to be improved.
Young reportedly wants a return to the capital after three and a half years at Villa Park, and is said to be attracted by the Champions League football Spurs are able to offer this season.
If Spurs were to match the England international's wage demands, he would be on a par with the likes of the club's top earners, including Luka Modric, whose deal is around £80,000 a week.
Spurs manager Redknapp offered £19 million for Young's services last summer, and then £21 million a fortnight later.
Redknapp has made Young his primary transfer target this summer, while Villa look set to lose another prized asset in James Milner, who is expected to join Manchester City next week.
It is believed that Villa want to balance their books ahead of the new season but would be interested in taking Spurs striker Robbie Keane to Villa Park in any deal that might be agreed.
