Christian Gourcuff, the Lorient coach, has offered the first miniature criticism of Laurent Blanc’s reign over the France national team, indicating that he feels Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny should have been rewarded with a call-up.

Gourcuff was the coach who nurtured Koscielny through his one season with Lorient in Ligue 1, grooming him into a player signed for an eight-figure fee by Arsene Wenger's Gunners this summer.

With all 23 of the World Cup players banned from the national side for the forthcoming friendly with Norway, the coach was extremely surprised to see Koscielny’s name omitted from Blanc's first squad list.

“I am disappointed for Laurent Koscielny, he deserved to be there, especially considering the circumstances,” Gourcuff told Chronofoot.

“But I'm not worried for him, he has plenty of time. He must validate his progress with Arsenal.”

In the meantime, Gourcuff turned his attention towards one of his current players.

“Kevin Gameiro could apply too, but he is injured. This is not a major problem. He has time to get noticed by Laurent Blanc,” the coach explained.

Gourcuff has recently stated his contentment to stay with Lorient, despite the frustration of continually losing his most talented players to bigger sides.
