Roma target Valon Behrami likely to remain at West Ham United - agent
Midfielder courted by Italian giants...
By George Watts
Valon Behrami is still considered an important member of the West Ham United team and will be staying at Upton Park this season, his agent has confirmed.
The Swiss international has been linked with Serie A giants Roma for the majority of the summer but is set to remain at Upton Park, with new manager Avram Grant keen to keep the former Lazio man at the club.
The player’s agent, Alessandro Beltrami, admits that the player is flattered by interest from one of Europe’s elite clubs but cannot see the Hammers letting the midfielder go.
"West Ham considers Behrami a major player," Beltrami told Sky Italia.
"The situation is therefore a little difficult."
West Ham signed Behrami from Italian side Lazio in 2008 for a fee believed to be £5 million and he has been one of the better performers for the Hammers in his two years at the club.
Behrami has made no secret in the past about his desire to play in European football and Roma are a club who certainly fits that bill.
“Some clubs asked me about the player but at the moment there is nothing concrete," Beltrami acknowledged.
"The player is linked to West Ham and if a club is interested they should talk to them. Valon is glad of the interest of Roma. He is honoured to be in the aims of such a prestigious club."
