Barcelona have returned after their failed £29 million bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas by launching a £35m last-gasp attempt to grab their man, according to reports.

Manager ArseneWenger has been desperate in recent days for Fabregas to commit himself to Arsenal before the season, at least to ease the pressure of the media and calm the fans. Yesterday Fabregas wore the Gunners shirt and sat alongside Wenger for the club's new season photoshoot at the Emirates, suggesting Barcelona had been forced to give up on their man.

However, Sport.es, have reported the Blaugrana have not thrown in the towel, despite Wenger and Arsenal closing the doors of the Emirates on any move. Fabregas will meet up with the Spanish squad for a friendly before the season kicks off, which will no doubt disappoint coach Wenger; Fabregas will of course spend time with the players Arsenal have been slamming for "loose lipped" comments.

The saga has dragged team mates, family and former players into voicing their rage, desire and disappoints concerning the player's future. Before the transfer window comes to end unquestionably more will air their opinions.

The deadline for Barcelona to make progress with a bid seems likely to be the opening game of Arsenal's season, which gives them just under two weeks to set the wheels in the motion. But it seems unlikely will be willing to open negotiations with the Catalan club, despite the improved terms fo their reported offer.

Fabregas has not played a full competitive fixture for Arsenal since his injury against Barcelona in the Champions League last season.
