Liverpool defender Danny Wilson is hoping to give manager Roy Hodgson a few selection issues to think about during the course of the season.

The 18-year-old recently signed with the Merseyside club from Scottish heavyweights Rangers, where he was awarded the titles of PFA and FWA young player of the year. Now the young centre-half hopes that he can quickly settles down at his new club.

"I don’t have that high an expectation for this season, I’m just trying to prove myself," Wilson said, according to the Daily North Post.

"I am trying not to set too many targets for myself. I just want to settle in as soon as possible and give the manager something to think about, but it’ll be up to him how many games I get.

"My aim for the season is to be there or thereabouts."

Some critics had pointed out that the former Gers starlet's move to the Premier League - and to a club of Liverpool's standing - may have come a little too early in his career. But the youngster insists that he is out to prove his naysayers wrong.

"I suppose there is a bit of that, but I’m here to do it for myself," he said.

"People will always have their own opinions, and it’s my job to prove those wrong. Hopefully I can do that."
