Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi is a transfer target for his former club Manchester United, according to The Daily Star.
The 23-year-old was on the books at Old Trafford between 2004 and 2007 but made just five appearances for the first team - prompting a move to the Primera Division.
The Red Devils received £6.7 million for the sale of Rossi and could move for him again with a cut-price bid. Sir Alex Ferguson inserted a clause in his Villarreal contract giving United first option if he decides to leave the Spanish club.
Rossi, who has scored 45 goals in 122 games in Spain, has also been attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe, with Milan, Inter and Hoffenheim all reportedly battling to sign the America-born forward.
Tottenham Hotspur had first-hand experience of Rossi’s talent on Thursday. The Italian destroyed Harry Redknapp’s side by scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 pre-season friendly win at White Hart Lane.
