Mark Hughes is ready to make his first signing as Fulham manager by bringing Aston Villa full-back Luke Young to Craven Cottage, according to the Metro.

Young, 31, has been told by Villa boss Martin O’Neill that he is not in his plans for next season and to look for another club.

Liverpool looked set to sign the ex-Charlton man earlier this week after having a £2.5 million bid accepted, only for the move to collapse over personal terms, with reports suggesting Young was unwilling to take a pay-cut to join the Merseyside club.

Now it seems that Hughes is ready to take advantage of the collapse and seal a similar priced deal for the former England defender in the next few days.

This could persuade Liverpool to turn their attentions to Fulham’s Paul Konchesky, with Roy Hodgson keen to raid his former club to bring the left back to Anfield. According to the Liverpool Echo, it is believed Hodgson will make a bid of around £2.5m for the ex-Charlton and West Ham player.
