West Ham United's ex-Lazio star Valon Behrami happy to wear the colours of Roma shirt as swap deal involving Alexander Doni is discussed - report
By Andrew McLean
Valon Behrami could make the move from West Ham United to Roma if the two clubs can come to a mutual agreement on a player swap deal, according to News-Roma.
Behrami joined the Hammers from Roma's arch-rivals Lazio in July 2008, four months after famously scoring a stoppage-time winner for Lazio against Roma in the 'Derby della Capitale' that effectively ended the Giallorossi's Scudetto hopes that season.
Yet despite the very mixed reception that Lazio hero Behrami would no doubt receive from Roma fans for switching to the capital's other club, the Swiss international says he would be happy to wear the red and yellow of the Lupi.
Although Giallorossi director Danielle Prade had earlier attempted to quash the deal, saying that Roma had not made a bid, it would appear that sources in Italy believe a transfer is in the negotiation stage.
West Ham would reportedly be willing to let Behrami go if Roma goalkeeper Alexander Doni moved in the opposite direction, as the Hammers may part company with their current No.1, Robert Green, who has been criticised for his blunder in England's World Cup opener against USA, and in whom Fulham are said to be interested.
Wing-back Behrami has already agreed personal terms with Roma, according to the report, and he is expected to sign a three-year deal worth €1.5 million (£1.25m) a year.
However, before anything is done in terms of a deal with West Ham, Roma want to settle the issue surrounding the transfer of Argentine defender Nicolas Burdisso from Inter. A meeting will take place today between club representatives, with Roma apparently willing to up their bid to €6m (£5m) to capture the 29-year-old.
