Liverpool and Stoke City are among a clutch of clubs competing to snap up ex-Olympique Lyonnais full-back Francois Clerc, according to L'Equipe.
Clerc, 27, has endured a miserable few seasons after repeat injury problems saw him drop out of club and international reckoning. Despite the setbacks, the 13-times capped full-back has attracted interest from the Premier League pair, along with Italian sides Palermo and Sampdoria since his contract expired at the end of the season.
New Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is set to move for the player to bolster his defensive options, while Stoke supremo Tony Pulis has confirmed he is still in the market for players. The duo will hope the defender prefers the Premier League to Serie A when it comes to weighing up his options.
