Aston Villa youngster Nathan Delfouneso to feature in Sunday friendly against Benfica
England Under-19 striker to head straight to club's tour of Portugal...
By Kevin Emery & Samuel Van Gelder
The 19-year-old was one of England’s star performers in France – leading the line until his side were knocked out in the semi-final after losing 3-1 to Spain. His performances have certainly caught the eye, and he will now be looking to push on and secure a place in his club’s first team.
And Villa boss Martin O’Neill wants the pacy frontman to play a part in the Guadiana Cup game at the weekend.
"Nathan is going to come out. He will arrive in Portugal sometime on Friday and, with a bit of luck, he will be involved in Sunday's game at least," O’Neill told reporters.
It’s not so promising for defender James Collins, who didn’t feature in Villa’s first training session on tour after picking up a knock on his calf during a friendly against Walsall on Tuesday, which they won 2-1.
"James is very keen to get back playing as quickly as possible but his pre-season has been a bit stop-start,” added O’Neill.
"Maybe it is time for James to go steady because it's a long season. Instead of five days to get over something, maybe double the time [to recuperate]."
