Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is set to make a move for Aston Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov, according to The Mirror.
The new Liverpool boss would seemingly want 30-year-old Petrov to replace Javier Mascherano, who has told the club he wants to leave this summer, and is reportedly ready to offer £7 million for his services.
Petrov is the second Villa player Hodgson has been linked with after reports suggested he made a move for right-back Luke Young, with the former Fulham boss keen to add some experience to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Reds take on Macedonian side Rabotnicki on Thursday evening in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie.
