Stoke City manager Tony Pulis is preparing to make Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz the club’s record signing, according to The Sun.
The 28-year-old has had a forgettable 12 months at Eastlands since moving from Blackburn Rovers for £18 million last summer.
The Paraguay international is reportedly being allowed to leave City for a cut-price fee as manager Roberto Mancini looks to trim his squad down to 25 players by the end of the summer transfer window.
Pulis is now set to launch an £8 million bid for the striker, who made just six Premier League starts for Manchester City last season.
Stoke are yet to make a major signing this summer and Pulis has confirmed that he is looking to add to his squad.
The Sun quotes Pulis as saying: "We need to bring a few in and we are looking to do that.
"We'll do our business the way we do our business and that is by dealing with the other clubs.
"We have been working diligently to get deals done but it's not gone for us yet."
