Defensive cover edges out striking cries, but only just...

Part II of Goal.com UK’s Liverpool summer signings fan poll. For the full series & all the teams covered, visit the Premier League summer signings page.

By Richard Parry

On Tuesday we asked you which position Roy Hodgson should look to strengthen during the summer, and your decision could hardly have been a closer call.

38.56 per cent of you want Liverpool to add to their defensive options - in particular, a new left-back.

But an almost equal number of you called for Hodgson to sign another attacking option, by acquiring another striker. In total, 36.73 per cent would like to see some added firepower.

Only 20.00 per cent are unhappy with the Red' midfield options, while 4.31 per cent are satisfied with the current squad.

And, unsurprisingly, the area which you feel in least need of a refurbishment is between the sticks, with Pepe Reina receiving unanimous support, many questioning that the goalkeeping position was voted for at all! All in all, only 0.39 per cent are unhappy with the club’s current first-choice shot-stopper.

Here’s a run through of the players on top of the fans' most wanted list...

LIVERPOOL FANS’ MOST WANTED | DEFENDER

Coentrao Figueroa

"Wayne Bridge should be able to fill the LB dilemma."

"I've got a feeling Figueroa is first choice."

Wayne Bridge is a full-back whom many of you have suggested would be an ideal signing to strengthen the Liverpool defence, and with Manchester City having acquired Aleksandar Kolarov from Lazio, you feel that the former Chelsea man could be a realistic addition.

Another player who has seemingly caught your eye is Benfica full-back Fabio Coentrao. The defender performed impressively throughout the World Cup finals this summer, and you have highlighted the 22-year-old Portuguese international as a quality signing for the club.

And another player close to home is Wigan Athletic’s Maynor Figueroa. You’d be hard pushed to forget the Honduran’s wonder strike against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium last season, and his defensive qualities and undoubted physical power are attributes many of you would like to see at Anfield next season.

THE FINAL DEBATE

Tomorrow we will unveil the star signing that YOU hope to see plying his trade at Anfield next season. So, who will it be?
