Marseille are set to end Roque Santa Cruz’s forgettable stay at Manchester City by snapping up the Paraguayan for a cut-price fee, according to The Mirror.
The 28-year-old moved to Eastlands for £18 million from Blackburn Rovers last summer but started just six league games for City. He was bought by Mark Hughes, who had been his manager at Rovers, but Hughes was subsequently sacked as City manager in December 2009.
Every Premier League club will have to name a 25-man squad by the end of the summer transfer window and City's current manager, Roberto Mancini, may omit the former Bayern Munich man from his squad if he lands his transfer targets.
Inter’s Mario Balotelli looks set to join Manchester City after being heavily linked with a move to the club throughout the summer, while Mancini has also expressed an interest in LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan.
Emmanuel Adebayor says he wants to stay at Eastlands, which could spell the end for Santa Cruz, who is now on Marseille’s radar.
The French champions want to sign the Paraguay international for half of the fee that City paid for him last summer. However, his £80,000-a-week wages could prove to be a stumbling block for Didier Deschamps' side.
