Everton’s Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini has returned to full training following surgery on a knee ligament injury picked up during a derby clash with city rivals Liverpool last term.

Fellaini, Everton’s club record signing, suffered the injury on February 6 when he landed awkwardly on the leg of Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

Initial scans proved that surgery would be necessary to ensure a full recovery and so Fellaini’s expected absence was extended to six months.

"I have no pain, I am happy," Fellaini told Everton’s official website following his first full training session.

Last season, before the abrupt ending to his campaign, Fellaini had made 20 Premier League starts, scoring two goals.

Greg Stobart reports from Old Trafford: “We’re having a bit of a lull here, on and of the pitch, but I don’t think the drama is over this afternoon. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Kenny Dalglish so passive on the touchline - he’s looking rather fed up as United look to see the game out as we head into the final 10 minutes. The visitors have never got going in the second half and United are looking very comfortable at the moment as they dominate possession.”
