Barcelona board spokesman claims Arsenal are unwilling to negotiate Cesc Fabregas deal
Gunners keen to keep hold of skipper…
By Danny Hart
The 23-year-old, who began his career with Barcelona before joining Arsenal as a 16-year-old in September 2003, has been heavily linked with a return to his former club throughout the summer, with the Catalans openly confirming their interest in the World Cup winner on a number of occasions.
Arsenal rejected a bid of €35 million (£29.2m) from Barcelona earlier this summer and despite numerous attempts to negotiate a deal, Freixa says the Gunners simply don’t want to sell him.
"Arsenal don't want to sit down and negotiate with us. It's not a problem with the wishes of Cesc or of Barca - they simply don't want to negotiate," he told reporters on Monday evening.
In the summer’s biggest transfer saga, Barcelona have reportedly set a limit of €45m (£37.5m) on the price they are prepared to pay for Fabregas. That is almost certainly below what Arsenal would accept, even if they were prepared to sell.
Meanwhile, following the departure of Yaya Toure to Manchester City, Barcelona are without cover for defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets, and Freixa says a replacement for the Ivorian is also on their wish list.
"The technical secretary is working hard on that," Freixa said.
