Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor says he wants to stay at the club and fight to retain his place in the team.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Juventus this summer and could struggle to keep his place in the starting line-up if City can land their transfer targets.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres and Inter’s Mario Balotelli are both targets for manager Roberto Mancini, who has openly admitted his interest in the duo.

Adebayor is happy with the players Mancini has already signed this summer and is looking forward to challenging for silverware this season.

"If you're not at the top of your game, you're going to be sitting on the bench," he told Sky Sports.

"I understand that, that's normal at a good team. I'm always motivated when I go out on the pitch. We love playing football and we have to be ready for the challenge.

"A lot of good players are coming in but I still want to be the No.1 striker and that is what I am trying to do.

"They are bringing good players into this club and we have to put our spirits together to manage to win something."

Adebayor moved to Manchester City from Arsenal for £25 million in July 2009 and scored 14 goals in 26 league games for the club last season.
