Sol Campbell having a medical at Newcastle United today - report
By George Watts
Sol Campbell is having a medical and is set to sign for Newcastle United according to Sky Sports News.
Campbell, who had previouslly been linked with both Celtic and Sunderland, is a free agent following his second spell with Arsenal last season.
The former England man impressed many with his defensive displays towards the end of the campaign for the Gunners, and many had expected Arsene Wenger to offer Campbell another contract, perhaps for one more season.
However, Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has made his move for Campbell, and should the signing be completed it will go some way towards shoring up a suspect Magpies defence which has been stretched already in this pre-season with injuries to the likes of Steven Taylor and new signing James Perch.
