Barcelona close to reaching agreement with Arsenal to sign Cesc Fabregas - report
Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement over a deal to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, according to El Mundo Deportivo.
Throughout the summer the 23-year-old has been linked with a return to the club where he began his career, but after months of speculation, a deal is now reportedly close to being completed.
The report suggests a ‘secret agreement’ is in place and will be finalised once a few details have been cleared up. However, both clubs have denied that they are in talks over a deal for the Gunners' skipper.
Fabregas held talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger before heading to South Africa for the World Cup, where it emerged the Spain international wanted to leave the Emirates.
Matters weren’t helped following Spain’s victorious World Cup campaign when a Barcelona shirt was lifted over his head by his international team-mates.
If a deal is to be completed for Fabregas to move, the transfer fee will be crucial. Arsenal, who have made it clear they would prefer not to sell their skipper, have previously indicated that Barcelona would have to pay at least £50 million to secure his services. The Spanish champions are believed to be aiming for a fee of £37.5m (€45m), a figure they say they are not prepared to exceed.
