Manchester City target James Milner enjoys 'amicable talks' with Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill
Midfielder won't play in friendly tomorrow night...
By Matt Monaghan
Milner, 24, has been at the centre of a tug of war between the two Premier League sides after the Blues had a £20 million bid rejected in May. O'Neill admitted last week he would be forced to be sell if the rumoured £30m price tag was matched and had stated the midfielder had requested to leave Villa Park after refusing to enter new contract negotiations.
This declaration was reported to have angered Milner, as he prepared to come back to the Villa set-up after his England World Cup 2010 exertions today.
A statement on the club's official website has declared the two parties held talks on Monday afternoon, concluding that Milner would fly to Portugal on Wednesday to join up with the rest of the first-team squad.
"James Milner trained with the rest of the Villa squad today at Bodymoor Heath," the statement read.
"He and the manager, along with chief executive Paul Faulkner and the player's representative, Matthew Buck, had an amicable conversation and, while James will not play in tomorrow's game at Walsall, he will fly with the squad to Portugal on Wednesday ahead of the Guadiana Cup."
Villa will face Benfica and Feyenoord in the Guadiana Cup, which takes place this weekend.
