Arsenal will make a £15 million bid for Everton defender Phil Jagielka this week, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The Gunners have already had a bid of £10m rejected for the 27-year-old but Arsene Wenger is refusing to give up on the centre-half.
Jagielka, who signed a new five-year deal in May, has impressed during his three-year spell at Goodison Park and has been capped three times by England.
Wenger has been a long-term admirer of the former Sheffield United star and is reportedly keen to add some English steel to his defence as he attempts to build a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.
From this season, every Premier League squad will have to name a 25-man squad at the end of each transfer window, with a minimum of eight home-grown players included. This includes players who have played for an English or Welsh team for at least three seasons between the ages of 16 and 21.
