Everton are set to make Mikel Arteta the highest paid player in Toffee’s history in order to keep him from making a move to Manchester City this summer.

Toffees boss David Moyes is worried that some of his best players are being eyed by their Premier League rivals, with City targeting Arteta and Arsenal interested in Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar.

According to the Daily Mail, Arteta will be offered £75,000-a-week to remain with Everton, who he joined from Real Sociedad five years ago.

The 28-year-old Spaniard returned to the side in January after missing almost a year with a knee ligament injury, Arteta quickly returned to form for the first team, scoring six goal in 13 appearances for the club last season.
