Arsene Wenger believes Cesc Fabregas will not regain his match sharpness until early September.

The Arsenal midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to his former club Barcelona but Wenger has reiterated his stance that the 23-year-old will not be leaving the Emirates this summer.

Instead, the Gunners boss has been focusing on when his captain will be ready for the new season.

"Physically, it is an advantage when you don't play at the World Cup." Wenger told The Guardian.

"And mentally, when you play in the World Cup final on 11 July, it is difficult to come back with complete recovery before the end of August."

Fabregas and fellow World Cup finalist Robin van Persie are not due to return to training until after the Emirates Cup, so their only role in a pre-season match will be against  Legia Warsaw on 7 August, a match that Arsenal are contracted to play under the terms of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski's transfer from the Polish club.

Both Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri were omitted from the England and France World Cup squads, respectively, and Wenger believes that is a good source of motivation for the two midfielders to feed off next season.

"They are certainly highly motivated," Wenger said. "They have recovered well from the disappointment and the best answer is always to show how hungry you are on the pitch. Nasri is in good shape, he is physically ready. He is full of confidence."
