There appears little doubt that Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas is Barcelona's primary target on the summer transfer market, but the Spanish champions are not solely focusing on the Spain international.
Barca appear to be reluctant to meet Arsenal's hefty financial demands and the Blaugrana are already lining up other possible alternatives.
According to a report in El Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan powerhouse are closely monitoring the situation of Werder Bremen and Germany star Mesut Oezil just in case they fail to secure the services of Fabregas.
Oezil was one of the revelations of the 2010 World Cup and the left footed playmaker is continually being linked with a move away from Werder Bremen.
The 22-year-old's current contract with the Hanseaten is due to expire in the summer of 2011 and Werder are believed to be ready to cash in on Oezil this summer. A fee in the region of £15 million could be enough to lure the playmaker away from the Bundesliga side.
However, Barcelona face stiff competition in the race for Oezil's signature. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and Juventus have all been linked with the attacking midfielder, too.
