Stiliyan Petrov wants Aston Villa to bring in Celtic winger Aiden McGeady
Skipper believes Irishman would fit in well at Villa Park...
By Adithya Ananth
Aston Villa skipper Stiliyan Petrov has encouraged his club to move forward with a transfer for Celtic winger Aiden McGeady.
It has been speculated that the Birmingham-based club could make a move for the highly-rated Republic of Ireland international, after Bhoys boss Neil Lennon conceded that the 24-year-old is hoping to make a move away from Parkhead.
Should the Hoops' youth product sign for Villa, he would be reunited with former team-mate Petrov as well as ex-boss Martin O'Neill.
"We have special players here at Villa already like Stewart Downing, Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor - and Aiden would come into that category," the skipper told the press.
""They are the sort of players who can make something happen out of nothing so we would be happy if Aiden came to Villa.
"I think he has developed a lot as a player in the last couple of seasons.
"He's a player that a lot of big teams are looking at presently because you don't see many players willing to take the opposition on.
"It will be hard for Celtic to let him go because he's really important for them and I'm talking like he's coming here when I don't know that.
"But I do know he is the type of player that would be good for Villa."
According to previous reports, Villa are looking at McGeady as a replacement with regard to the potential departure of James Milner to Manchester City.
