Manchester United striker Federico Macheda leading attempts to persuade Inter ace Mario Balotelli to join club - report
By Salvatore Landolina
Manchester United striker Federico Macheda has told Inter ace Mario Balotelli to quit the San Siro and head for Old Trafford, as the Premier League side use different tactics to grab his attention.
On Saturday Balotelli told Il Corriere dello Sport that United's interest in him was rewarding, and the same paper now claims Macheda is putting the sweeteners on a move on behalf of Sir Alex Ferguson. Both strikers are team-mates with the Italy under-21 side and are good friends.
Macheda, who has been at United since 2007, is reportedly sending Balotelli text messages, speaking highly of the Red Devils. He has also told friends that the Inter man has been thinking about leaving for some time.
Reports have suggested the striker's agent Mino Raiola met with United chiefs in Amsterdam to discuss vital steps towards a move.
Raiola informed that a deal was possible, but United would have to cough up around £33 million for the player, after Massimo Moratti and Rafael Benitez suggested they would not be forced to sell.
