Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Stefan Maierhofer told he can leave the club
Austrian set for Molineux exit…
By Danny Hart
Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Stefan Maierhofer has been told he can leave the club, according to the player’s agent.
The 27-year-old, who joined from Rapid Vienna last summer, failed to establish himself in the first team and spent the three months on loan at Bristol City towards the end of last season.
Maierhofer’s agent, Max Hagmayr, has confirmed can leave Molineux because manager Mick McCarthy "does not count on him".
"We are talking to some clubs about Stefan and there has been interest in Germany, but nothing concrete as yet," Hagmayr told skysports.com.
"Normally Stefan wants to stay and play at Wolverhampton, but he has been informed that he should go as the manager does not count on him.
"We will now wait and see what offers come in for Stefan."
Maierhofer’s expected exit could spark another move in the transfer market for Wolves boss McCarthy, who has already splashed out around £15 million this summer on Jelle Van Damme, Steven Mouyokolo, Adlene Guedioura, Stephen Hunt and Steven Fletcher.
