Liverpool star Fernando Torres could miss first month of new Premier League season with Chelsea move now in doubt - reports

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres could miss the first month of the new Premier League season after pulling up in Sunday evening's World Cup final with a groin injury, according to a report from The Sun.

Torres had only recently returned to action following a knee injury, and has endured a miserable couple of years on the injury front.

The former Atletico Madrid star's latest injury means that his potential move to Chelsea this summer is now in some doubt, according to The Daily Telegraph, who hint that the injury might dissuade the Blues despite their apparent interest.

Chelsea are apparently keen to offer £50 million for Torres, which falls some £20m short of Liverpool's valuation of the 27-year-old.

The Reds have reportedly already begun looking for replacements, however, with Edin Dzeko, also a reported target for Manchester City, said to be on Reds boss Roy Hodgson's wanted list.

The Bosnian is apparently close to a deal to join Manchester City from VfL Wolfsburg, but the Reds have already reportedly made contact with the Bundesliga outfit.

Although the Anfield outfit would find it hard to outbid City for Dzeko, even with the funds from any move involving Torres, the player himself might favour a move to Merseyside over Eastlands.
