Sunderland plan to hijack Dan Gosling's move to rivals Newcastle United - report
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will make a last-gasp attempt to capture Dan Gosling, despite rivals Newcastle United and West Ham United having already held talks with the youngster.
According to the News of the World, Gosling is at the centre of a transfer tug of war for his signature after an administrative blunder by Everton left the player out of contract.
The promising midfielder has already met with Magpies bosses' at the club's Benton training ground on Wednesday, before being shown around Upton Park on Friday by the Hammer's top-brass.
A further five Premier League clubs are also believed to have enquired about the 20-year-old since it was confirmed on Wednesday he would be allowed to leave Goodison Park for free.
However, nothing will be decided until the 14-day period in which Everton can appeal to the Premier League has passed, after it found that by only offering a verbal deal Gosling was now a free agent.
Having offloaded skipper Lorik Cana last week, Bruce is keen to bring in midfield reinforcements and sees Gosling as the ideal man to fill the void, even if it does incur the wrath of his near neighbours.
