Everton captain Phil Neville: Landon Donovan would love to join us
Toffees skipper claims USA talisman wants Goodison Park move...
By Tim Ward
Everton captain Phil Neville has claimed that former loanee Landon Donovan would jump at the chance of joining the Goodison Park club on a permanent basis.
The USA midfielder featured 13 times, scoring twice, for the Toffees while on a five month loan from his parent club Los Angeles Galaxy last season.
Although Everton boss David Moyes was keen to bring the 28-year-old to Merseyside, a deal failed to be reached for the USA captain.
However, after commentating during Everton's 1-0 pre-season friendly victory over Australian side Sydney FC, Neville confessed his former team-mate would welcome a move back to the Premier League.
"Definitely. The World Cup was probably a bad thing for Everton, his price will have gone up by £5 or £6 million," Neville told EvertonTV.
"I’ve spoken to Landon [Donovan] and I know for a fact that he wants to come back here [Everton]."
Donovan starred for USA during their unexpected run into the second round of World Cup 2010, where they topped England's group before being eliminated by Ghana.
