Palermo are set to rescue Manchester City flop Roque Santa Cruz from his disappointing spell at the club, according to the Daily Star.

Santa Cruz, 28, has struggled for form and fitness since he made a £17.5 million switch from Blackburn Rovers last summer. In his debut season at Eastlands, he managed just three goals in 19 appearances.

Despite this struggle, Palermo are set to offer him a Serie A escape route. This move will depend on whether they can cash in on Tottenham Hotspur target Edinson Cavani.
