Manchester City target Fabio Coentrao eyes big-money move from Benfica
Transfer race heats up...
by Matt Monaghan
The 23-year-old has been one of the rising stars of World Cup 2010 before Carlos Queiroz's side were knocked out by Spain on Tuesday. Comfortable at either left back or left wing, his form in South Africa followed a breakthrough season for Benfica, where he helped the club win the Portuguese title.
Coentrao's recent displays had alerted Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, with the trio all mulling over a bid, but Manchester City's economic strength is believed to have put them at the head of the queue.
Speaking to reporters, Coentrao admitted he was prepared to leave the Portuguese champions this summer.
"I do not say many things about this subject. But if a bid is positive for the club, I will accept the exit," he said.
"I am at a big club but is normal that I desire to improve like a professional."
The Blues' financial mite ensures they can take the plunge and add his signature to that of David Silva, whose move from Valencia to Eastlands was confirmed on Wednesday. Our
