Alan Curbishley is the favourite to succeed Liverpool bound Roy Hodgson at Fulham - report

Alan Curbishley is believed to be in pole position to succeed Roy Hodgson at Fulham, with the Cottagers boss set to be unveiled as the new Liverpool manager.

Hodgson has been heavily linked with a move to managing Merseyside giants Liverpool, following the exit of Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard left following a lacklustre season with the Reds, wherein the club was knocked out of all cup competitions at an early stage. Even the league proved to be a difficult mountain to climb, as the club missed out on qualification into the Champions League.

It has been widely speculated that Hodgson's arrival is on the horizon, as the London-based outfit hunt for a new manager.

And The Daily Mail reports that Curbishley is currently at the top of a list of bosses who could take to the Craven Cottage hotseat.

Goal.com UK revealed last week that the former West Ham boss was on a shortlist of four candidates to suceed Hodgson, along with Sven-Goran Eriksson, Mark Hughes, and Tony Mowbray.

The 52-year-old is believed to be appealing due his brilliant work at Charlton Athletic, wherein he guided the club to two promotions while managing on a shoestring budget during his 15-year tenure at The Valley.

In the meantime, The Telegraph claims that the club could instead approach Eriksson, as he was considered as a candidate to take the reins to the club before Hodgson was appointed to the helm.

The Swede managed Ivory Coast during the 2010 World Cup, but ended his short stint with the Elephants following their exit from the tournament.
