Argentina striker Diego Milito has declared that comparisons between his international team-mate, Lionel Messi, and England striker Wayne Rooney make him laugh.
Inter star Milito claimed there is no player in world football that can be compared to the Barcelona talisman, and remarked that Rooney, while in the top 20 players in the world, is not even close to the Argentine talisman at present.
"When we hear the English or anyone from the football world trying to compare Rooney with Messi it makes us laugh," he said to Spanish publication Sport.
"Rooney is very good player, there's no doubting that, but to put him at the same level as Messi is a mistake. There is no debate possible.
"When Messi retires he could become the best player ever. How can you compare him to anyone that plays at present, let alone someone who has not even been voted Footballer of the Year?"
The 31-year-old was also asked whether Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo are in Messi's league, but he also believes even those former World Player's of the Year are in the shadow of the Rosario-born star.
"They don't even compare but Rooney? No, no, no. "He [Rooney] is in the top 20 players in the world, but that does not make him Messi or even close.
"Messi is marked in every game by five or six players at the same time, something that does not happen to Rooney.
"Whatever happens, the boy [Messi] is already a legend."
