Everton are investigating the possibility of bringing USA star Landon Donovan back to Goodison Park, according to the News of the World.

The American forward found the net three times at World Cup 2010 before the United States were ultimately eliminated by Ghana at the last 16 stage.

His impressive performances have put him back on Everton manager David Moyes' radar, who is hopeful of a permanent deal being agreed in the near future.

Moyes initially wanted to keep Donovan beyond his exisiting loan deal last season, when he scored twice in his three-month spell on Merseyside, but the striker's parent club LA Galaxy ruled out any such move.

With Galaxy determined to keep hold of their stellar performer, Moyes faces an uphill battle to push through a deal to bring Donovan back, who became a firm fans' favourite in his short time at Everton.

An insider at Everton said: "The manager was really impressed with Landon [Donovan] and tried to keep him at the club.

'"There's always a chance of him coming back but it's a question of what LA Galaxy want."
