Tottenham Hotspur want to kick off their Champions League campaign with the £20 million signing of Brazil's World Cup striker Luis Fabiano, according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year old fits the calibre of centre forward manager Harry Redknapp intends to bring in as they take their first crack at Europe's top club competiton. After previously being linked with AC Milan's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko, the Spurs supremo is understood to have been impressed by the Sevilla centre forward's form in South Africa.

AC are also reported to be in the chase for his signature, although Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido told reporters this week that negotiations were underway to renew his contract at the club rather than consider selling him.
