Sunderland & Paraguay defender Paulo da Silva: Cristian Riveros will be a hit at the Stadium of Light
Defender believes team-mate will shine for the Black Cats
By Adithya Ananth
Paulo da Silva believes his Paraguay and Sunderland team-mate Cristian Riveros will be successful at the Stadium of Light.
The 27-year-old Riveros signed a three-year contract with the Black Cats last month, after spending three years playing for Mexican club Cruz Azul.
And the midfielder has shown a wide array of skills at the 2010 World Cup, playing a holding role during the draw with Italy. He then proceeded to put in a strong performance and score a goal in the victory over Slovakia, before impressing again with a decent performance in a goalless draw against New Zealand.
"Cristian is a big player for us and the way he is playing right now shows how good he can be, and he’s performing fantastically for the team at present," Da Silva said, according to The Journal.
"As we’ve seen so far in this World Cup, he’s a player that not only makes and creates goals for others but he scores them as well.
"I think he will be able to translate his form for Sunderland and will become a big player for us."
