Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has added yet more fuel to the fire of the saga of his potential move to Barcelona after revealing that Pep Guardiola was one of his boyhood idols.

Fabregas hails from Catalonia and grew up watching the Balugrana before entering the youth set-up at Camp Nou.

"[Josep] Guardiola has always been my idol since childhood. I played in his position and I noticed him," he told the Ona FM radio station.

"My coach even gave me a shirt signed by him."

Fabregas also spent some time in Barcelona last season recovering from injury, and he was delighted with the way in which he was treated by the locals.

"The treatment the people in Barcelona gave me when I was there for two months recovering from my injury was good," he added.

"People treated me very well."

Nevertheless, despite his clear affection for Barca, Fabregas also maintains a close working relationship with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

"He means everything to me. He is the person who put his trust in me," he said.

"Without him, I don't know if I would be a professional footballer today. I owe him a lot and I have a special affection for him."
