Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has insisted that he would like to sign Real Madrid's Guti, but has maintained that the midfielder may not wait long enough for him to make an approach.

The Ewood Park boss has revealed that the club's priority is to first bolster their strike force before adding weight to their engine room, but conceded that the wait could see the Spaniard join another club.

The 33-year-old is believed to be in favour of a move to the Lancashire club, after being convinced by former Bernabeu team-mate Michel Salgado.

"Guti would be a player we would like to sign, there is no doubt about that," Allardyce said, according to The Lancashire Telegraph.

"It has been fronted by Michel Salgado and it has been outstanding that a player like that would like to come to Blackburn.

"But a player in his position is not the priority at the moment.

"One of the stumbling blocks for me is [that] the priority is a front man and I am not so sure Mr Guti could wait for us to find a front man and see where we go from there.

"But that is the key thing for us to sign a front man and then look elsewhere after that."
